Nursery – Spring 2 Blog

Farmyard Hullabaloo

We have had very busy week in nursery this week. The children have enjoyed looking at the text “Farmyard Hullabaloo”. We enjoyed developing our scissor skills by cutting the animals from the story out. We enjoyed sorting animals into 2 categories – animals that live on the farm and animals that don’t. We have enjoyed using vegetables from the farm to paint our own pictures instead of paintbrushes. In maths we have enjoyed looking at capacity – we enjoyed filling and emptying containers in the water and sand area. In the maths area, we have enjoyed filling the bowls and cups until they were “just right” for Goldilocks and the three bears.

Farmer Duck

We have enjoyed looking at the text “Farmer Duck” this week. The children enjoyed joining in with the key words in the story. We have enjoyed following steps to draw a duck and making farm animals in the junk modelling area. In maths we have enjoyed looking at weight and using the scales to see which classroom objects were heavier/lighter. We have loved using the apparatus and climbing frame in P.E. this week building our balancing and confidence whilst on them. Well Done Everyone!

On the Farm

This week we have been learning all about the farm further. We enjoyed looking at the different jobs on the farm and looked at them in the past compared to now. In maths we looked at height and length. We enjoyed visiting the beach to create short and tall towers using the stones. We also visited the library this week to celebrate World Book Day. The children enjoyed finding their favourite stories and the librarian even came to share a story with us.

What the Ladybird Heard

This week the children have enjoyed looking at the text “What the Ladybird Heard”. We enjoyed joining in with the phrases in the story and then created a “wanted” poster for Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len. We build barns for the animals in the construction area. This week we have enjoyed recreating Gustav Klimt’s Farm paintings. In phonics, we have been enjoying learning all about instrumental sounds – we particularly liked creating our own kitchen band with the pots and pans. Outside, we have enjoyed risk taking, problem solving and using our imagination – the children have been skiing, become firefighters and went fishing! Well Done Little Puffins!

Rosie’s Walk

This week the children have enjoyed learning all about the farm. We looked at farming equipment now and in the past and what they were used for. We then looked at different animals we might find on the farm. We linked this to our text this week “Rosie’s Walk” the children loved learning all the different positional language, making up actions for them and then showing us them in practice outside when they build their own obstacle course and took on the role of Rosie. We enjoyed creating our own book “Fox’s Walk” based on the fox from the text. In maths we enjoyed counting the animals in and out of the pen consolidating our learning of numbers to 5. We enjoyed a listening walk in our phonics session and looked at different pre-writing patterns using the vehicles to recreate these.
