Over and Under/ The Big Freeze

Over the last two week the children have loved exploring winter further. We looked at the text “Over and Under” and talked about animals that live over and under the snow in winter. We then enjoyed going outside to explore signs of winter – the children loved investigating the ice in the tuff tray. We have also looked at the text “The Big Freeze” – we enjoyed designing jumpers for the Llamas in the story and using tweezers to add loose parts to the jumper on the tuff tray. We have enjoyed developing our fine motor skills over the last few weeks also – we have tried to improve our scissor skills, threading and weaving skills. In maths we have been looking at the number 4 – we enjoyed playing lots of different games surrounding the number and loved going on a number 4 hunt around our environment.

One Snowy Night

Happy New Year! What a fantastic first week back we have had. The children have all settled in really well. We have enjoyed learning all about winter this week. We have used different materials to create a winter collage, we have looked at the text “One Snowy Night” and predicted who might be at Percy the Park Keepers door, then drew pictures of the different animals from the story. We enjoyed creating snowman pizza. During continuous provision the children have loved the junk modelling area this week – exploring different materials and attachments. We have made binoculars, a car garage and lots of castles. We have enjoyed developing our fine motor skills practising threading and mark making in a variety of ways – with chalk pens, on paper and in the “snow” using paint brushes. Well Done Little Puffins!
