Nursery Blog – Autumn 2

Christmas – The Jolly Christmas Postman

This week we have looked at the text “The Jolly Christmas Postman”. We discussed what a postal worked does and then later in the week they were very excited to receive their own letter in the post from Father Christmas himself! We have loved looking at Christmas more this week and were very excited for our Christmas dinner. We took part in our own version of the Elf Run and enjoyed playing elf games. One of the children also found a “secret door” we explored this further thinking about why it was there and discussed that it was from before the new part of the school was built. We then went to explore the school further to find new and old features. Well Done Little Puffins!

Christmas – Dear Santa

This week we have enjoyed looking at Christmas. We read the text “Dear Santa” and looked at what we might like for Christmas. We then created our own Christmas lists developing our scissor skills. In the messy play area we have enjoyed exploring the “snow” and discussing the texture. We have also enjoyed dressing up and decorating our Christmas tree in the home corner.

Exploring Autumn

This week we looked at some animals that hibernate more. The children then enjoyed using clay in the malleable area to create their own hedgehogs. In maths we have looked at matching. The children loved using the duplo to match their creation to the pictures. In P.E. we enjoyed learning how to roll in different ways. We have also looked at the weather this week and explored wind. We read Rosie’s Hat and discussed how we could make a hat that won’t fly away in the wind.

Autumn

This week in nursery we have enjoyed exploring Autumn. We looked at the artist Jackson Pollock and created our own interpretation of his art by splashing paint on paper and talking about the effect. We created our own patterns with autumnal items like Andy Goldsworthy. In P.E. we have been developing our jumping and throwing skills. We have also enjoyed learning about road safety this week using the paper and little people and then practicing it with the bikes. The weather has been very cold so we have been building dens outside. We then spoke about how the animals might get cold and discussed that some animals hibernate. The children loved building houses for these animals in the construction area.

Remembrance Day

This week we have enjoyed learning all about Remembrance Day. The children enjoyed looking at Mrs Gough’s grandad’s army medals. We then looked at these to design our own medals. We have looked at poppies and created our own using a variety of media – clay, loose parts, paint and chalk. We created our own cenotaph using small and large construction materials. Later in the week we enjoyed looking at Children in Need. We had a special visitor (Pudsey) a few weeks ago which we relooked at and have enjoyed creating our own Pudsey pictures.

Diwali

We have enjoyed looking at Diwali this week. The children have enjoyed learning all about the festival and how we celebrate it. We used clay to create our own Diya lamps. Outside we have enjoyed using the shapes to create different Rangoli patterns. We have also enjoyed making our own firework wands and recreated the fireworks using our gross motor skills outside. We even used breadsticks and chocolate and looked at melting to create out own sparkler sticks.

Halloween

This week we have enjoyed looking at Halloween. The children enjoyed exploring the pumpkin and cutting shapes out of it. We have enjoyed looking at the text “Pumpkin Soup” and we then created our own Pumpkin Soup practicing our knife skills cutting the different vegetables. We have been building towers and talking about height, seeing how high we could make them. In P.E we have been developing our gross motor skills, building our balancing on the benches and throwing different objects.
