Guided Reading Workshops
Reception
During the summer term of reception, children experience adult-led guided reading. Children, in small groups, read books from the Bug Club guided reading scheme that are closely aligned to their developing phonics knowledge and knowledge of common exception words. The books are 100% decodable and each child has their own copy of the text.
The first of the guided sessions focuses on phonics/words and the second guided session focuses on developing the children’s comprehension through a specific reading skill.
KS1
In KS1, children participate in reading workshop sessions. The workshop includes adult-led guided reading delivered over two sessions and independent reading related tasks which includes the opportunity to select their own reading material to read for pleasure.
The first adult-led guided reading session focuses on phonics/words and the second guided session focuses on developing the children’s comprehension through a specific reading skill.
The children read books from the Bug Club guided reading scheme that are closely aligned to their developing phonics knowledge and knowledge of common exception words. The books are 100% decodable up until the end of phase 5, giving children the chance to apply and practice the skills and knowledge from their phonics lessons.
