Reception are on the hunt for Spring

We went on a visit to the park today to look for some signs of Spring and to see how the park has changed since our last visit in Autumn. The first thing we noticed was that the sun was shining and it felt very warm outside compared to last time when we had to wrap up warm in our Winter clothes. As we walked into the park we spotted lots of flowers beginning to grow.

As we continued on through the park we spotted that lots of people had been very busy in the Allotment close by and had begun to plant lots of beautiful plants. We used our phonics skills to build and blend all of the signs on each of the plots and we even spotted signs of minibeasts that were also enjoying the plants by eating them! We thought The Very Hungry Caterpillar had been at one plant in particular because it was covered in holes….

We enjoyed applying all of our new knowledge that we had been learning about back in the classroom to spot each of the different parts of the plant such as the leaves, the stem and the roots. We talked about the life cycle of a plant where we found seeds and bulbs that were ready to be planted and we spotted a tiny shoot poking out of the soil searching for the sunshine. We all thought the plants needed a little watering so next time we will take our watering cans along with us to help out!

What a super afternoon!
